News Releases 2022

Paris, 7 August 2022

To: Mr. Josep Borrell Fontelles
High Representative of the European Union
for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy

Mr. High Representative,

There is little doubt that Iran backs this week’s Palestinian Islamic Jihad (PIJ) rocket bombing of Israel. The PIJ is known to be Tehran’s proxy agents in Gaza and the West Bank, while Hezbollah is the one operating from Lebanon. For both terrorist organizations, the main objective is: the annihilation of Israel and the Jews.

The PIJ Secretary-General Ziad Nakhaleh is presently seeking operational and financial support from his puppet-masters of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) – the elite of Tehran’s armed forces and considered a terrorist organization by the US. The PIJ has received some 70 million US$ from Tehran this year, and has been promised more if the sanctions were lifted.

In a letter to Audrey Azoulay, Director-General of UNESCO, the international guardian of cultural heritage, The Wiesenthal Centre Director for International Relations, Dr Shimon Samuels, relayed the “outrage of the Centre’s members concerning the Palestinian Authority’s (PA) ongoing plan to destroy an archaeological site, Tel Orma – a.k.a. Horvat Ormah or Khirbet el-Ormeh (in Arabic) – an ancient Hasmonean fortress from the era of the Maccabees.”

Samuels and the Israel Hayom daily have noted that “the Tel Orma archaeological site – including the ruins of the Biblical town of Aruma – are unfortunately located in the West Bank ‘Area B’, under PA civil jurisdiction. Over the past decade, this situation has reportedly meant being subject to an onslaught of irresponsible plunder, with the intent to supply local museums with ancient so-called ‘Palestinian' artifacts’.”

At the UN’s Human Rights Council in Geneva, Miloon Kothari is one of the three members of the newly established Commission of Inquiry (COI) into the “Grave Human Rights situation in the Occupied Palestinian Territory, including East Jerusalem and in Israel.”

In a revealing interview (see press release dated 28 July below), Kothari railed against the “Jewish lobby,” falsely accused Israel of “apartheid” and even questioned Israel’s right to be a member of the United Nations.

Paris, 28 July 2022

To: Ambassador Lotte Knudsen
Delegation of the European Union to the UN
and other international organisations in Geneva

Dear Ambassador Knudsen,

We write on behalf of the Simon Wiesenthal Centre, one of the largest international Jewish human rights organizations with over 400,000 member families in the United States, Europe and Latin America. We are an accredited NGO at the United Nations, UNESCO, the OSCE, the OAS, and the Council of Europe.

We express grave concern regarding the heinous, unacceptable statements by UN Human Rights Council Commissioner Miloon Kothari. Not only has he now falsely accused Israel of “apartheid,” https://mondoweiss.net/2022/07/apartheid-is-not-sufficient-an-interview-with-un-human-rights-commissioner-miloon-kothari, but even more egregious is Mr. Kothari’s questioning the legitimacy of Israel to exist as a member of the United Nations.

The Palestinian leadership has constantly committed “identity theft” to validate their own historical narrative, as in the UNESCO World Heritage Committee.

As a 16-year-old member of a Zionist youth organization, we demonstrated against apartheid outside the South African London Embassy.

Our heroes were the Jewish anti-apartheid figures in the UK, Israel and South Africa. Almost all those charged in the 1963 Rivonia Trial were Jewish, namely Lionel Bernstein, Arthur Goldreich, Denis Goldberg, Harold Wolpe and others.
