An Open Letter to French Foreign Minister, Jean-Noël Barrot
by Dr Shimon Samuels

Paris, 23 December 2024

Mr Minister,

We are aware of the global interest of France for the finest cuisine.

However, the Embassy of France in Egypt has apparently celebrated those using hate as an ingredient. In fact, the Cairo Embassy’s Facebook page congratulates Mustafa Seif, the award-winning Chef at Khufu’s Restaurant, part of the Pier 88 Group.

Nevertheless, this is the poison visible on Mustafa Seif’s Instagram page (above), while he reiterates the following on his Facebook:

“Teach our children that Palestine is occupied, that Al-Aqsa is a prisoner, that the Zionist entity is an enemy, that resistance is an honour, that there is no State called Israel. Free Palestine!”

Mr Minister, we urge you to see that the French Ambassador to Egypt provides the antidote to this toxic agent, beginning with a public notice that the kitchen of Mustafa Seif is off the Embassy’s list, until hate is off the Pier 88 menus.

After all, Mr Minister, removing such poison would also assist in maintaining the peaceful relationship between your Egyptian counterpart and Israel.

Most respectfully,

Dr Shimon Samuels
Emeritus Director for International Relations
Simon Wiesenthal Centre
