“Launch an enquiry into this matter and order the immediate withdrawal of UN and EU funding to the European Gaza Hospital, pending that institution’s apology, its public condemnation of all forms of Jew-hatred and proof of the dismissal of Yahya Al Nawajha from its staff.”
Paris, 15 February 2017
In letters to Antonio Guterres, United Nations Secretary-General, and Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, the Simon Wiesenthal Centre Director for International Relations, Dr. Shimon Samuels, expressed outrage that a hospital would spew hate.
Samuels noted that “Yahya Al Nawajha, Director of Public Relations and Media at the European Gaza Hospital (under the auspices of the HAMAS Ministry of Health), posted on his personal Facebook account the notorious Tsarist forgery, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, by Victor Marsden (including a link to download the book)”,
Adding, “even if on a personal page, his institution bears full responsibility. Indeed, it is inappropriate for a high official of a European and UN funded hospital to post a link to what is considered ‘the antisemite’s bible’ and ‘a warrant for genocide’.”
The letters urged the Secretary-General and the High Representative “to launch an enquiry into this matter and order the immediate withdrawal of UN and EU funding to the European Gaza Hospital, pending that institution’s apology, its public condemnation of all forms of Jew-hatred and proof of the dismissal of Yahya Al Nawajha from its staff.”
The Centre also called on Facebook to remove this page.
